Philosophy

Pilates is all about core and core muscles stabilize the spine -- they don't create movement. So if you're focusing on the movement of your limbs (as we tend to do when we exercise) and your torso isn't stable, your core isn't engaged.
When you work with me you will learn how to engage muscles that protect your spine. This will help to prevent back pain and improve your posture. You will learn to use muscles you've never felt, or even thought of, before. You will move with concentration, focus, mindfulness and control, and through that you will develop an acute awareness of your body. You will be able to relax muscles you don't need as well as engage the ones you do. In time, this new way of being in your body will become an intrinsic part of you. You will create strong pathways from your brain to these previously underused muscles and you will automatically hold yourself and move in an entirely new way, so that even as you age you will still feel strong.

I've been teaching Pilates and fitness since 2005. It's a second career for me -- I spent my younger years as a journalist and entered the fitness industry when I was 52. Teaching Pilates has been my passion ever since, and now that I'm in my 70s I can attest to how beneficial the work has been for my own body. Over the years I've developed a deep understanding of what Pilates means to me, and that has led me to create Don't Just Move. Not all Pilates classes focus on this aspect of the discipline -- in many cases it's all about the movement -- but for me Don't Just Move is the key to what Pilates is all about.
The Studio
Classes are held in a fully equipped studio on a small private ranch on the outskirts of Fallbrook.
Private, duet and trio sessions on the reformer are offered. Privates and duets may include the use of other Pilates apparatus depending on client needs. All levels welcome.
With a maximum of three in a class, there's an opportunity for a lot of individual attention to ensure good form and correct muscle engagement. Our small groups also foster friendship and connection between participants.
And if you are an animal lover, we have rescued pigs, goats, a horse and a donkey you can visit after your session!
